We are proud to support The OppO Foundation and provide a specialised rowing machine to assist ParalympicsGB Wheelchair Rugby Athlete, Stuart Robinson. Stuart will be competing in the Tokyo 2021 games and we can’t wait to see him compete!

Stuart’s story

Stuart Robinson is a British Veteran who served in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. It was on his 4th deployment in Afghanistan that he lost both his legs in an explosion.

To get back on track, Robinson entered the selection process for the Inaugural Invictus Games in London in 2014 - just one year after experiencing life-changing injuries.

Fast forward to today, and Stuart is training to join the 12-strong ParalympicsGB team in Tokyo to compete as a wheelchair rugby athlete. This will be Stuart’s debut as a Paralympian and at GymKit UK we’re proud to be supporting him in his preparation for what will be the biggest match of his sporting career.

Howard Braband, managing director of GymKit UK, said: ‘It’s been a huge honour to be part of this project and to support The OppO Foundation, and particularly to support Stuart and help him in his training. I want to wish you the best of luck, train hard, let’s bring back some medals!’

The OppO Foundation

The Oppo Foundation was established to support ex-military personnel on their return to civilian life. One of the many ways The OppO Foundation supports British Veterans is by helping them to compete and represent their country as Team GB in the Invictus Games and other sporting championships.

Teresa Griffiths, trustee of The Oppo Foundation, said: ‘The Oppo Foundation is delighted to be able to support veterans like Stuart, who despite their injuries never, ever give up.’

When are the Tokyo Paralympic games?

The Tokyo Paralympic games were supposed to take place in 2020, but were postponed until 2021. The games are now set to take place between the 24 August – 5 September.

Stuart said: ‘Your support has been massively beneficial in supporting veterans in so many different ways, and helping me with my goal of being at the Tokyo 2021 Paralympic games.’

GymKit UK wanted to support The OppO Foundation’s goals to remove boundaries and barriers that British Veterans face and help them excel and redefine their future as Paralympic athletes. Based in Peterborough in the UK, GymKit is dedicated to supporting Paralympic veterans like Stuart to help them train and compete at their best.
